Description

A Marble Steeped in History

Statuario is arguably the most storied marble on earth quarried in the Carrara region of Italy and prized since antiquity for sculpture and architecture. What sets it apart is contrast: a brilliant, near-luminous white background crossed by bold, decisive veins of gray and occasional gold. Where other white marbles whisper, Statuario makes a statement. It’s the choice for spaces meant to feel timeless, refined, and unmistakably luxurious.

As a natural stone, every tile is unique, and the dramatic veining means each installation becomes its own composition no two floors or walls are ever quite alike.

Choosing Your Finish

  • Honed Ground to a smooth, low-sheen matte. It softens the contrast for a calmer, contemporary read, hides etching and wear better than polished, and is the practical choice for floors and busy interiors.
  • Polished Buffed to a brilliant, reflective shine that maximizes the contrast between the bright white field and the bold gray veining. Breathtaking on walls, countertops, and lower-traffic floors, though it shows etching and is slippery when wet.

Where It Works

Statuario carries a Class 3 Heavy Commercial durability rating, so it holds up in high-traffic residential and commercial interiors. It is a Group B stone structurally sound, with any minor natural imperfections filled with epoxy or resin at the factory.

For exteriors, it is rated for covered floors and walls in both freezing and non-freezing climates: protected patios, porches, and covered entryways rather than fully exposed surfaces.

A Note on Caring for Statuario

Like all marble, it is softer and more acid-sensitive than granite. Acidic liquids wine, citrus, vinegar, and many cleaners can etch the surface, so seal it, use pH-neutral cleaners, and wipe spills promptly. One consideration specific to this stone: it contains natural mineral and iron deposits that can react to moisture, occasionally causing bleeding or rust-like marks. For that reason it should not be used where it sits in standing water or constant humidity, and a sealer is strongly recommended.

What to Know Before You Buy

  • Seal it. A penetrating sealer is strongly recommended. Marble is porous and acid-sensitive, and this stone’s mineral content makes sealing especially important.
  • Use pH-neutral cleaners. Avoid vinegar, citrus, and acidic products.
  • Avoid constant moisture. Not for standing water, run-off, or high-humidity areas the iron content can react and cause rust marks.
  • Not for shower floors. Interior wet walls are fine when sealed and maintained.
  • Grout joint: 1/16″–1/8″ recommended.
  • White setting materials recommended a dark thinset can shadow through the bright, translucent marble.
  • Large formats need medium bed mortar. The 12×24 has a side over 15″, so medium bed is required.
  • Order 10-15% overage for cuts, breakage, and future repairs. Shade variation is rated M (Medium), so expect visible tile-to-tile differences in veining order all material from one lot and dry-lay before setting.
